The 2018 Reading Challenge - #47 - A Book by an Author with the same 1st or 2nd Name as you
Hello bookworms :)
The worst prompt ever...and my choice in the end...a book by an author whos´first name is a nickname of mine...close enough I thought ;)
Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race
by Reni Eddo-Lodge
by Reni Eddo-Lodge
Again a little summary from goodreads:
*
"In 2014, award-winning journalist Reni Eddo-Lodge wrote about her frustration with the way that discussions of race and racism in Britain were being led by those who weren't affected by it. She posted a piece on her blog, entitled: 'Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race' that led to this book.
Exploring issues from eradicated black history to the political purpose of white dominance, whitewashed feminism to the inextricable link between class and race, Reni Eddo-Lodge offers a timely and essential new framework for how to see, acknowledge and counter racism. It is a searing, illuminating, absolutely necessary exploration of what it is to be a person of colour in Britain today."

I´ll give it a 7 out of 10
I am a little "afraid" writing a review about this...since I know I don´t have the time to really delve into it and go into detail but at the same time I know this book...just as most of the others...deserves a good detailed review with all the opinions and a interpretations and looks on it and comparisons and critical view and I don´t know...lost...lost my thread here... ;)
I hope you wont mind and I´ll just let you know in one or two sentences what I think and how I liked it - nothing else - but I´d love to talk about it with you :)
First of all I find it quite horrible that we still find to have the need to talk...or not talk...about race. In a world as modern and sophisticated and educated as we think it is, it should not be a topic at all. Of cause everyone finds a hold and a definition of oneself in the culture he/she originated from - but culture is so something different than race - I don´t know, you know? A separation of the HUMAN race into individual races and a grading in best and worst is horrible and not necessary.
We are all one race and I think we ALL should finally get that, move and create something beautiful with the new energy. We are all one and the same and skin colour or such things should not even be a reason to differ who somebody is...should not differ the experience of certain situation, should not differ the way someone is treated and should not differ the way you talk to a person - we are all the same and different looks do not differ the human - good and bad does not come from race or looks...
God, I hope so much you all know what I mean ;)
Okay so the book.
The original post is amazing and kind of the origin of the book itself and its also in the book - so if you want to go into more detail before reading the book read it, do your research and I know there are many amazing reviews online you´ll hopefully find what you´re looking for!
I liked this book although it not going to be right at the top of my fave books list. I do think that many people should read it and that it´s an important part of the conversation in this and many other topics and I would probably read it again, so I do recommend it.
