The 2018 Reading Challenge - #19 - A Book about or involving a Sport
Hi everyone :)
Its a lovely one today and a quirky one either and one which might fit the prompt only in the broadest sense ^^ but it´s supposed to be about sport and here it is from the Harry Potter Universe:
Quidditch Through the Ages is a 2001 book written by British author J. K. Rowling using the pseudonym of Kennilworthy Whisp about Quidditch in the Harry Potter universe. It purports to be the Hogwarts library's copy of the non-fiction book of the same name mentioned in several novels of the Harry Potter series. The book benefits the charity Comic Relief. Over 80% of the cover price of each book sold goes directly to poor children in various places around the world. According to Comic Relief, sales from this book and its companion Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them have raised £17 million.¹
Again a little summary from goodreads:
*
"If you've ever wondered where the Golden Snitch comes from, how bludgers come to life or why the Wigtown Wanderers wear a butcher knife drawn on their uniform, then you'll want to read Quidditch through the ages. This edition is a copy of the copy that is in the library of Hogwarts College and that young Quidditch fans consult almost daily."

I´ll give it a 8 out of 10
Its such gorgeous little book to read, definitely a Harry Potter Fan only...probably ;)
Basically its all about Quidditch the game played in the HP universe, its all about the games history and development, all about the brooms and balls and players and rules and the teams playing. So all in all quite the easiest choice I could make for this category to be honest ;) but I´m glad I went for this book, its lovely ^^ and you can read it in one sitting only so that makes it a quick and entertaining read, written in a delightful and charming way with some adorable figures meaning scribbles describing the story and I love the introduction by "Albus Dumbledore" so amusing ^^
So if you´re looking for a quick and hilarious read this is the one to go for ;)

For a little more inspiration and some alternatives ^^
(all summaries are from goodreads):
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die. At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them. Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.
Sports fans live and die by their teams’ successes and failures—though not literally. But these fourteen authors have written spirited—in more ways than one—new tales of killer competitions that would make even the most die-hard players ask to be benched.
When we first meet Michael Oher, he is one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack; he does not know his real name, his father, his birthday, or how to read or write. He takes up football and school after a rich, white, Evangelical family plucks him from the streets. Then two great forces alter Oher: the family's love and the evolution of professional football itself into a game in which the quarterback must be protected at any cost. Our protagonist becomes the priceless package of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard the quarterback's greatest vulnerability: his blind side.
Stephen Satlow is an eight-year-old boy living in Brooklyn, New York, which means he only cares about one thing-the Dodgers. Steve and his father spend hours reading the sports pages and listening to games on the radio. Aside from an occasional run-in with his teacher, life is pretty simple for Steve. But then Steve hears a rumor that an African American family is moving to his all-Jewish neighborhood. It's 1948 and some of his neighbors are against it. Steve knows this is wrong. His hero, Jackie Robinson, broke the color barrier in baseball the year before. Then it happens--Steve's new neighbor is none other than Jackie Robinson! Steve is beyond excited about living two doors down from the Robinson family. He can't wait to meet Jackie. This is going to be the best baseball season yet! How many kids ever get to become friends with their hero?
