Kafka on the Shore
by Haruki Murakami
above First edition (Japanese) - pic source and the edition I have - pic source
Kafka on the Shore is a novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami, published in 2002.
John Updike described it as a "real page-turner, as well as an insistently metaphysical mind-bender".
Since its English-language release in 2005, the novel has received mostly positive reviews and critical acclaim,
including a spot on The New York Times 10 Best Books of 2005 and the World Fantasy Award.
Again a summary from goodreads:
*
"Kafka on the Shore is powered by two remarkable characters: a teenage boy, Kafka Tamura, who runs away from home either to escape a gruesome oedipal prophecy or to search for his
long-missing mother and sister; and an aging simpleton called Nakata, who never recovered from a wartime affliction and now is drawn toward Kafka for reasons that, like the most basic activities of daily life, he cannot fathom.

As their paths converge, and the reasons for that convergence become clear, Haruki Murakami enfolds readers in a world where cats talk, fish fall from the sky
and spirits slip out of their bodies to make love or commit murder.

Kafka on the Shore displays one of the world’s great storytellers at the peak of his powers."

I´ll give it a 9 out of 10
I really really enjoyed reading this book.
I loved the chrakters in it and their stories and I LOVE how it is written!
I´ll definitely check out more books from Haruki Murakami!
Before starting to read this I thought well its going to be just an other book...that sounds terrible I know...of cause I was excited to read it ;) ...I hope you know what I mean
...well I did not feel like starting a huge classic...not like oh I am reading War and Peace thats huge ;)
But actually there is so much more about it.
With doing a little bit of reading about the books for this challenge I am learning so much more about the books I actually read ;)
Thats amazing normally you never do research about a book you read ;)
So if you want to know a bit more ^^ here is a link to questions and answers and interviews with the author :)
and a loooot more details about the motifs and ideas and inspirations of the story!
Really interesting ^^
Well...suggestions in this category are a little bit pointless since the book you choose is a gift you got or a book you borrowed and I don´t know anything about that ;)
But let me know which one you chose and whether its a gift or a loan ^^
